After Hill.

Released in 2008 on Thrill Jockey. Mountains is two guys, Brendan Anderegg + Koen Holtkomp, from Brooklyn. Together, they record sculpted sound and soundscapes in a live setting. This is their 3rd album. Choral is a very vast and expansive record. Lots of lush sounds and harmonies slowly layered on top of each other, mixed with some treated acoustic guitars and a variety of other instruments. Everything on here was recorded in real time, which is truly impressive since it sounds so full and beautiful. The music on here is constantly and subtlety progressing and always changing shape and texture, you barely even notice. The music really takes it’s time and all the swells and climaxes happen so gradually, that the passage of time goes unnoticed. Every song shimmers and shines and sounds 100% natural. No foreboding alien sounds and bleak space station atmospheres. A very sunny and distinct album. Choral is full of minute details. Every song has some sort of shifting undercurrent that gets layered and looped. Everything expands exponentially. Lot’s of sustained notes and found sound. Nothing sounds half assed. There was no missteps that I could detect, despite it all being recorded in real time. If your a fan of bands like Stars Of Lid, Fennesz, Emeralds, Eluium, definitely check Mountains out. Very scenic music with lots of resonance. They don’t sound like every other ambient / drone group out there. they have a very distinct style and sound. Very warm and inviting. The More
